1. General information

- To know the major syndromes of medical pathology, especially those that are important for a correct oral-dental care.

-To know how to take a detailed medical record and a brief general physical examination.

- To know the oral manifestations of medical pathologies.

These approaches and goals are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations Agenda 2030 (https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/), so that the acquisition of the learning results of the subject provides training and competence to contribute to some extent to their achievement:

2. Learning results

- To know those oral manifestations that indicate the existence of a medical pathology in order to be able to refer the patient to the corresponding medical services..

-To interpret the results of complementary tests (analytical, X-rays)

- To know how to take a correct clinical record in order to carry out an adequate dental treatment.

The learning results obtained in this subject are important because they enable the student to be able to face the study of the rest of the subjects that include the care of the sick person and the performance of the professional profiles, which the students will be able to exercise from the health point of view in the prevention of the disease and the care of the sick person.

On the other hand, teamwork will contribute to the strengthening of interpersonal relationships necessary for the integral formation of the student.

3. Syllabus

Topic 1: Introduction

Unit 2: Clinical History and Examination of the Oral Cavity

Unit 3: Autoimmune diseases and their oral implications.

Unit 4: Hematologic alterations and their dental management. Anti-aggregation and anticoagulated patient.

Unit 5: Cardiac diseases and their clinical management.

Unit 6: Diseases of the Endocrine System. Oral manifestations and dental management.

Unit 7: Immunosuppressed patient: HIV and transplanted patient.

Unit 8: Hepatic and renal pathology.

Unit 9: Gastrointestinal disorders and their oral manifestations.

Unit 10: Oncologic processes and their management in the clinic.

Unit 11: Neuromuscular diseases.

Unit 12: Management of the patient with mobility difficulties.

Unit 13: Interpretation of the results of an analytical analysis.

Unit 14: Vademecum Management. Interconsultation.

4. Academic activities

Participative lectures.

Preparation of group work.

5. Assessment system

- Individual written test (80% of the final grade). Completion of a written test with 50 multiple-choice questions with 5 items of which only one answer is valid. It will be necessary to have 35 correct questions to pass the test.

- Group work: realization and presentation (20% of the final grade).

1. Información básica de la asignatura

- Conocer los grandes síndromes de la patología médica, especialmente aquellos que tienen trascendencia para una correcta asistencia buco-dentaria.

- Saber hacer una historia clínica de manera detallada y una breve exploración física general.

- Conocer las manifestaciones orales de las patologías médicas.

Estos planteamientos y objetivos están alineados con los siguientes Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS) de la Agenda 2030 de Naciones Unidas (https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/), de tal manera que la adquisición de los resultados de aprendizaje de la asignatura proporciona capacitación y competencia para contribuir en cierta medida a su logro:  

  • Objetivo 3: Salud y bienestar.
  • Objetivo 8: Trabajo decente y crecimiento económico.
  • Objetivo 9: Industria, innovación e infraestructuras. 
  • Objetivo 10: Reducción de las desigualdades

2. Resultados de aprendizaje

- Conocer aquellas manifestaciones orales que indican la existencia de una patología médica para poder derivar al paciente a los servicios médicos correspondientes.

- Interpretar los resultados de pruebas complementarias (analíticas, radiografías)

- Saber realizar una correcta historia clínica con la finalidad de realizar una terapéutica odontológica adecuada.

Los resultados de aprendizaje que se obtienen en esta asignatura son importantes porque capacitan al alumno para poder afrontar el estudio del resto de las materias que incluyen la atención al hombre enfermo y el desempeño de los perfiles profesionales, que los alumnos podrán ejercer desde el punto de vista sanitario en la prevención de la enfermedad y la atención al hombre enfermo.

Por otra parte, el trabajo en equipo contribuirá al fortalecimiento de las relaciones interpersonales necesarias para la formación integral del alumno.

 

3. Programa de la asignatura

Tema 1: Introducción

Tema 2: Historia Clínica y Exploración de la Cavidad Oral

Tema 3: Enfermedades autoinmunes y sus implicaciones a nivel oral.

Tema 4: Alteraciones hematológicas y su manejo odontológico. Paciente antiagregado y anticoagulado.

Tema 5: Enfermedades cardíacas y su manejo en clínica.

Tema 6: Enfermedades del Sistema Endocrino. Manifestaciones orales y manejo odontológico.

Tema 7: Paciente Inmunodeprimido: VIH y paciente trasplantado.

Tema 8: Patología hepática y renal.

Tema 9: Trastornos gastrointestinales y sus manifestaciones orales.

Tema 10: Procesos oncológicos y su manejo en la clínica.

Tema 11: Enfermedades neuromusculares.

Tema 12: Manejo del paciente con dificultades en la movilidad.

Tema 13: Interpretación de los resultados de una analítica.

Tema 14: Manejo del Vademecum. Interconsulta.

4. Actividades académicas

Clases magistrales participativas.

Elaboración de trabajos grupales.

5. Sistema de evaluación

- Prueba individual escrita (80% de la calificación final). Realización de una prueba escrita con 50 preguntas test con 5 ítems de los cuales solamente una respuesta es válida. Será necesario tener 35 preguntas acertadas para superar la prueba. 

- Trabajo grupal: realización y exposición (20% de la calificación final).
